Political Sociology of Generation Z: Transformation of the Political Culture of the New Generation
Sahar Sadat Sajadian
Abstract
Generational change is one of the key themes in contemporary political sociology and plays a decisive role in understanding shifts in political behavior and patterns of public participation. Generation Z, as the most recent socially and politically active cohort, exhibits distinctive characteristics in the field of political culture. This generation is less committed to grand political ideologies and instead places greater emphasis on concrete issues, social justice, governance efficiency, and quality of life. The aim of this article is to provide a sociological analysis of Generation Z’s political culture and to explain the factors contributing to its transformation. The research employs a descriptive-analytical method and is grounded in the theoretical frameworks of political culture theory, generational theory, and value change theory. The main research question is: What are the characteristics of Generation Z’s political culture, and how does it differ from previous generations? The findings indicate that Generation Z possesses a participatory-critical, issue-oriented, and performance-driven political culture, evaluating political legitimacy primarily based on efficiency, justice, and accountability. This transformation may have significant implications for the future of political systems and governance models.
Keywords: Generation Z, political culture, political sociology, generational change, political participation, political values.
